Charlton Heston enjoyed an unusually long Hollywood career, appearing in more than 100 films over sixty years. He will likely be most remembered for his portrayal of historic figures such as Moses, Marc Antony and Ben-Hur in big budget, epic films. Heston was also well-known for a real-life role: president of the National Rifle Association, a position he held for five terms from 1998-2003. Ironically, Heston had been a major supporter of the Gun Control Act of 1968.
