California's Redwood National Forest features the world's tallest trees. Named after a Greek Titan, which specific tree is the tallest?
Answer Hyperion
There be giants in California's Redwood Forest – giant sequoias, that is. Along with the coast redwoods (the world's tallest trees), the giant sequoias and the dawn redwoods make up the three sequoia tree species that canopy the forest with their height. The tallest of these trees is Hyperion, which stands 380 feet tall (that's 20 feet more than the length of a football field!) and is between 600 and 800 years old. Hyperion was one of the twelve Titans – the children of the Earth (Gaia) and the Sky (Uranus) who fathered Helios, Selene, and Eos (Sun, Moon, and Dawn, respectively).
