"Borborygmus" is a weird bodily phenomenon that we've all experienced at once time or another. What is the more common way of describing borborygmus?

Technically called borborygmi, the sound you recognize as your stomach growling is caused by contractions of the muscles of the stomach and small intestine, and more rarely of the large intestine, or colon, as they move food, liquid, and gas. It tends to happen more and be louder when your stomach is empty.
