Black Death brought this empire to its knees, but in its heyday, it was the largest contiguous empire the world has ever seen. It may be because of their military tactics, which included enlarging their campaign size by placing dummies on horses.
Answer Mongol Empire
The Mongols knew how to war. Genghis Khan led the way in expanding the empire into the largest contiguous empire in history, covering sixteen percent of the world's land (9.15 million square miles) of land and a quarter of its population at the time (110 million people). His success had to do with military tactics, like making his forces appear bigger, with warriors leading multiple horses topped with dummies into campaigns, also tying sticks to the tails, in order to kick up dust clouds. Too bad the Mongols were no match for 14th century Black Death.
