Between 1850 and 1890, a former piece of Texas was not assigned to any state or territory, and was known officially as the "Public Land Strip" or was commonly known as "No Man's Land". What state did this piece of land eventually join?
Answer Oklahoma
The "Public Land Strip" was not assigned to any state or territory between 1850 and 1890, despite attempts from the local settlers to organize and send a member to the United States Congress. It was formerly the northern tip of Texas, but because of the pro-slavery stance of Texas at the time, the Compromise of 1850 prohibited slave states from entering the union north of 36°30' latitude, so Texas surrendered this land. It eventually became the Oklahoma Panhandle.
