The best seller went on to become big stage and screen successes, as our friend, Ebenezer Scrooge, transforms from greedy old miser to generous rich man after a three-ghost visit. Surprisingly, Dickens was prompted to write the tale of humanity after reading a recent child labor report (and because of his own child labor experience), which inspired the author to invite readers to see workers as more than machines.
