In this painting, Rembrandt wanted it be clear which hat he was wearing. Finish the name of this masterpiece: Self-Portrait Wearing a White Feathered what?
Answer Bonnet
While most people associate the word "bonnet" with women's headwear, it was really just a generic word for hat through most of the Middle Ages, and wasn't replaced by the word "cap" until around 1700. There is some controversy about this painting depicting the artist wearing his fancy headwear; some scholars attribute this iconic painting not to Rembrandt, but to Ernst van de Wetering.
