As a general rule of thumb, what is the minimum safe amount of space to give when passing a bicyclist?
Answer 3 feet
Most states have statutes in place legally enforcing a 3 foot passing distance between a car and a bicycle, although some states allow up to 6 feet. They aren't as protected as you, so be nice!
