An unlikely pair, this duo made two films together. The first, Min and Billwon her an Academy Award as Best Actress. The second, Tugboat Annie enjoyed great popularity as well. No love was lost behind the scenes for these two though. Their relationship was all business.

Wallace Beery was a self-admitted oaf and hated to rehearse. He was more content to play the role of a lovable slob. He was always joking it up which irked the more disciplined Marie Dressler, of whom actor Robert Young said, "She was really lovely, a wonderful person." They were both older when their on-screen union first took place, and she died just a year after Tugboat Annie was filmed.
