An underground computer hacker finds out the life he and every other person is living an elaborate fantasy concocted by the machines that are enslaving the human race.

The sequences inside the Matrix are all treated with distinct green overtones while scenes in the real world have more natural colors. The greens are used to make the viewer feel as if the movie is being viewed through an old-fashioned computer monitor.
