In Revelation, an angel gave John a little book. What did he do with it?

John was told by an angel to take and eat the "little book". Revelation reads, "Then I took the little book out of the angel’s hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter." The angel then told John to prophesy to people all over the world.
