The flag of Guatemala's stripes represent the fact that it is a land between two oceans. In the middle is the Guatemalan coat of arms which features some rifles symbolizing defense, a scroll with the date of Central America's independence from Spain, a bay laurel crown for victory, crossed swords for honor, and a resplendent quetzal bird which symbolizes liberty.
