Glenn Ford's first film, Texas was a western which is the genre he is best known for. However, early in his career, he co-starred with Fredric March and Margaret Sullavan in So Ends Our Night which President and Eleanor Roosevelt saw and liked so much they invited him to Roosevelt's annual Birthday Ball. He served as a captain and a commander in the Navy during his three different tours and was awarded several medals. His most memorable role was played opposite Rita Hayworth in the film Gilda.
