A star is born...but from what are stars actually born?

While Lady Gaga's star may have been born of singing "Shallow," stars in the sky are born from clouds of dust. The Orion Nebula, for instance, is one of these dust clouds, whose turbulence forms knots of gas and dust that collapse under their gravitational pull of attraction and – voila – a star!
