Answer Battle of Midway
In June of 1942, a decisive loss for Japan at the Battle of Midway marked a turning point in the war. Just six months after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Japan met its match, when the United States used code-breaking to counter an ambush by Imperial Japan, destroying much of its navy (in all, obliterating a cruiser and four carriers and damaging two destroyers and a second cruiser). In doing so, the U.S. and its allies were now on the offensive.
