The 13th century saw the Magna Carta written and the Mongol empire really take off running. While Genghis Khan led his warriors on a conquering-spree across Asia, "The Great Charter" granted individual rights, such as justice and a fair trial, and declared that everyone (even the king) is subject to the law.
