This British-born woman attended a lecture by Arthur Eddington and said of the experience "My world had been so shaken that I experienced something very like a nervous breakdown." Is this the photo of a scientist or a serial killer?
Answer Scientist
The woman in this photo, Cecilia Helena Payne-Gaposchkin, was a brilliant astronomer and astrophysicist who stated in her 1925 doctoral thesis that stars were composed primarily of hydrogen and helium. While her theory was initially rejected, independent studies would later prove her to be correct.
