The show’s protagonist, played by Peter Falk, had one of the most intelligent minds on TV, taking down criminal after criminal, solving mystery after mystery. His style of investigation, for which you have to thank the writers, William Link and Richard Levinson, inspired countless other TV shows. In fact, Columbo showed that policemen can be humble and daydreamers too. Lieutenant Columbo didn’t chase bad guys or kill them, in fact, he wouldn’t even fire a gun, he simply wore a coat, smoked cigars, drove a run-down car, and pulled lies apart one by one.
