According to the plot in the Book of Genesis, in ancient times all people around the world spoke the same language. They gathered in what would later become the city of Babylon and decided to build a tower tall enough to reach Heaven.

But God wasn't too amused by their plans — that's why he made everybody speak a different language. The builders could no longer understand each other, and the whole Tower of Babel project fell through.

Regardless of whether this story actually happened, there's nothing else to do rather than admire the linguistic diversity we have in the world today — there are more than 6,500 languages actively spoken in the world right now!

Most of them are tied to a specific nation or country. And while some are obvious, such as Italian or French, others are more obscure. Do you know what country Flemish is spoken in? What about Oromo? Take our quiz to find out!
