Matching every language currently spoken in the world to its respective country is a bit like playing musical chairs — there are over 6,500 languages and only 195 countries. We included most interesting combinations in this quiz. Jump in to test your knowledge of the world's languages.
According to the plot in the Book of Genesis, in ancient times all people around the world spoke the same language. They gathered in what would later become the city of Babylon and decided to build a tower tall enough to reach Heaven.
But God wasn't too amused by their plans — that's why he made everybody speak a different language. The builders could no longer understand each other, and the whole Tower of Babel project fell through.
Regardless of whether this story actually happened, there's nothing else to do rather than admire the linguistic diversity we have in the world today — there are more than 6,500 languages actively spoken in the world right now!
