The 13 colonies were the OGs of American history. Sure, the U.S. was small at the time, but we were scrappy, and ready to become a big, grown-up country. In this quiz, we'll ask one question for each of the 13 original colonies. Let's see how well you do on this historical test!
For those of you who've forgotten, the 13 colonies were also known as the Thirteen British Colonies or the Thirteen American Colonies. These 13 territories were founded in the 17th and 18th centuries up the East Coast and laid the foundation for what became the United States in 1776. As of a year before the Declaration, there were only 2.4 million people living in the 13 colonies.
Some were named for Kings and Queens of England, some for local tribes that the colonists came across, and others for the local leaders that helped them take shape (we're looking at you Pennsylvania). Whatever their origin, the 13 colonies are always going to spark something in our imaginations that makes us want to go back and experience what the colonists did (except for the part of dying in the harsh winters). Let's see how much you know about these 13 places and their history!
