While working in Persia, Nehemiah heard about the progress of rebuilding Jerusalem.  He wept hearing that the walls were incomplete.  Walls for a city back then meant protection and defined borders.  He felt the city of his ancestors could be compromised.  Using his resources, he vowed to return to rebuilt that wall.

Nehemiah was not a wall builder, but he felt God's calling to complete a construction project.  The wall building brought out the villains who did not want Jerusalem rebuilt.  He worked through finance issues too, just like builders today, and finished the wall in record time, so much so that many considered it a miracle!
