The 1960s were a time of great social upheaval and change. On one hand you had psychedelics and flower power, on the other hand you had the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Movement, and changing power dynamics around the world.

The people in power in governments across the globe had to navigate the threat of nuclear war as well as rising tides of domestic violence in pursuit of a more perfect union. From the USSR to the United States, the geopolitical climate of the time was tense.

High profile assassinations, warring factions, and the spread of communism all led to profound cultural anxiety. But it wasn’t all doom and gloom. 1960s history is chock-full of art, music, and literature that is now considered iconic. Bands such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Kinks were in their heyday, as were icons like Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, and Janis Joplin.

Hippies and counterculture were also a big part of the 1960s. From anti-war slogans to pop art, people were beginning to rebel against the power structures that had dominated life since World War II. Freedom tasted sweet and people from all walks of life experimented with different forms of expression.

Thanks to advancements in technology, the 1960s was also a decade of space exploration -- both real and imagined -- with the first man to walk on the moon as well as science fiction television shows that boldly went where no one had gone before.

This 1960s quiz spans the entire decade and features questions about politics, culture, wars, movements and celebrities. It was a groovy time that profoundly altered the course of human history. So how well do you know the 1960s? Whether you were a child of the '60s or old enough to be drafted, test your knowledge of 1960s trivia with this quiz!
